I thought it couldn't happen to me!

It only happens to others, I am 'Invincible'? NOT!

I hooked up with TL Mitchell at Radcliff Harley Davidson, which is just south of Fort Knox, Kentucky. There we decided to make the run to MAMBM in west Tennessee via routes other than the slab. US-62 runs parallel with the Western Kentucky Parkway and seemed to be perfect for our run. There was the added advantage that if and when we got tired of the little villages and slower traffic, we could always jump up on the Parkway, which we did eventually. US-62 is a pretty good road with some long sweeps and tight double s-turns in combination with some pretty relaxing semi straight runs. The road was fun, in spots! We did have to watch out for that errant pile of hay on the side of the road that fell off the wagon, or the little pile of spoor, or the remains of the critter that didn't make it to the other side. At times the grass on the side of the road was so high, we were afraid we were going to blast around a curve right into a mower. This turned out to be a needless worry, I don't think that the locals know what a mower is, except for hay. There were a few ripples in the tarmac that made some of the high-speed curves interesting to say the least. It was also very hot which made the tar float to the surface making the road very slippery in spots.

That's when it happened. Rounding a double "S" curve that looked like a snake slithering across the land, the fully loaded Road King lost a little traction on the rear wheel, briefly, ever so briefly, but it sure put the pucker factor up many notches. Damn, it happened so fast that I could not have foreseen it happening.

Suddenly, I noticed that the road and air in front of me was filled with this slippery substance emanating from TL's bike?

I'd been "SLIMED"? it was everywhere, slamming into my bike, everything, and me on it!

And I thought it couldn't happen to me!

Thanks TL!
